Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)

A nurse seeking CEN certification may be employed in a variety of areas. Nurses are not restricted to one department or specialty. Examples of emergency care areas include, but are not limited to: emergency departments, urgent care, triage, PACU, medical or surgical intensive care units, flight nursing, transport nursing, first responders, military mobile field units, and trauma units.

Healthcare is incredibly competitive. Many hospitals seek Magnet recognition to make themselves more appealing to potential consumers by having the ability to advertise they have a nursing staff that has achieved specialty certification. The CEN certification is recognized by peers, the medical community and administrators as the benchmark of emergency nursing practice.
